HALLOWEEN PHOTOGRAPHY - CHILD VAMPIRE

MOON BATS
(Submission by Heather Friar). I have had the pleasure of working for Shadow’s Gate Charity Haunt in Leduc Alberta for a few years now as their principle photographer. They raise money for the local food bank. Last year we brought several of the characters into my home studio to get some “wicked” shots using strobes. Anyone who has seen my art will know that type of image is right up my alley. I love taking literary characters and bringing them to life and have been heavily influenced by Rembrandt and Film Noir type lighting.

CHICKS AT PLAY

CAMPERS TENT
Story and Images by Charmaine Toews. I live on a country property
with a couple of acres. For the last two years we have had laying hens so we can enjoy the pleasure of gathering our own eggs from our free-range chickens. They sleep in a coop, but during the summer days they wander a huge area of our yard that also has a large natural pond. They are happy chickens, we like to think. Well, when we got a new batch of 20 chicks to increase our number of layers, it only seemed right to photograph them.

PPOC 50th ANNIVERSARY NATIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY AWARDS GALA

PPOC LOGO
The Professional Photographers of Canada had big plans to celebrate their 50th Anniversary (1970-2020) along with their Awards Gala in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan April 24 - 27th. Unfortunately, those plans abruptly changed with the growing restrictions due to COVID-19. Instead of canceling the entire convention, it was decided to go ahead with the first (and hopefully last) Virtual Awards Gala that celebrates the successes and achievements of the dedicated service of their members as well as their photography skills. Many thanks to all those involved in producing this event.

THE MILITARY ACCREDITATION

(Images and story by Chris TT Thombs). As it is Remembrance Day a lot of people start thinking about the military, and November 11th. I thought I would share some info, and thoughts about No. 44 - Military Life accreditation, “The Military Accreditation”. Why would I write a blog about this accreditation, and why does this accreditation matter to the regular members of PPOC? In my opinion military life is part of the Canadian story that needs to be documented. It also gives you a chance to educate yourself as a photographer by working towards getting the accreditation which will test you both as a photographer and as a project manager.

FOR THE LOVE OF MONSTERS

"Images and Story by Jeff McDonald". Halloween has always been a favourite time of year for me. I get it honestly though…my mom always went above and beyond when decorating for Halloween and our house was usually the spookiest on the block. Fast forward 30'ish years and my wife, daughter and I are carrying on the tradition, but via special effects makeup, body painting and photography.
